Rivals Sada Cruzeiro and Itambé Minas will battle for the Brazilian Superliga title

The club volleyball season continues to progress quickly and national league Finals are set to start in a handful of countries this week, including Belgium, Brazil, Germany and Italy.

In Italy, by the way, it will be an exciting week, with decisive matches in the SuperLega Credem Banca and the Lega Pallavolo Serie A1 Femminile being held on almost a daily basis as the playoffs progress on both leagues.

In Asia, with most national leagues completed, the focus turns to the Women’s Club Asian Championship, which will qualify the winners for this year’s FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.

On the sand, the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour is also set for a big week, with the third Elite16 event of the season going on in Uberlândia, Brazil.

Here are the highlights of a loaded schedule for the next seven days:

Tuesday

SuperLega Credem Banca: Semifinals, Leg 5 - 18:00 local time (16:00 UTC)

After 12 days of intense battles and several turnarounds, the finalists of the SuperLega Credem Banca will finally be known with both semifinal series coming down to a fifth and decisive match. Itas Trentino and Cucine Lube Civitanova will be at home against Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and Allianz Milano respectively and the winners of the two encounters will win their series 3-2 and advance to the Italian League Finals.

Women’s Club Asian Championship

With nine teams from different countries in contention, the 2023 Women’s Club Asian Championship begins in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam. The tournament will go until May 2 and the winners will compete in the 2023 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship. Playing for the title will be Sport Center 1 (Vietnam), King Whale Taipei (Chinese Taipei), Paykan (Iran), Hisamitsu Springs (Japan), Liaoning Donghua VC (China), Hip Hing VC (Hong Kong, China), Altay VC (Kazakhstan), Khuvsgul Erchim VC (Mongolia) and Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force (Thailand).

Wednesday

Beach Pro Tour Uberlândia Elite16 - Brazil

After one week, the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour is back in Brazil for the third Elite16 event of the season, which will be played from Wednesday to Sunday at the Praia Clube, in Uberlândia. Among the highlights of the event is the return of Swiss Olympic bronze medallist Joana Heidrich, who was away from the sand since June 2022 due to a shoulder injury sustained at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship.

Lega Pallavolo Serie A1 Femminile: Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano vs. Igor Gorgonzola Novara – 20:30 local time (18:30 UTC)

The semifinals of the Lega Pallavolo Serie A1 Femminile begin with an exciting duel between defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and last year’s third-placed Igor Gorgonzola Novara. Conegliano, who will be at home in the first match of the best-of-three series between the teams, won the last four matches against Novara and will try to give the first step toward making it to the Italian League Finals for a fifth-straight season.

Thursday

Lega Pallavolo Serie A1 Femminile: Savino Del Bene Scandicci vs. Vero Volley Milano – 20:30 local time (18:30 UTC)

The second semifinal of the Lega Pallavolo Serie A1 Femminile will reunite Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Vero Volley Milano and their best-of-three series will begin in Scandicci, on Thursday. The home team won their most recent encounter, in February, but Milano topped their opponents in six consecutive matches before that setback.

Friday

Belgian Men’s League: Roeselare vs. Maaseik – 20:30 local time (18:30 UTC)

The Finals of the Belgian Men’s League begins, with the two best teams in the regular season, Roeselare and Maseeik, kicking off their best-of-three series. The two clubs have been dominating Belgian volleyball for the last three decades, having won each edition of the country’s league since 1994-1995 – defending champions Roeselare have 12 victories and Maaseik feature 15 triumphs in the period.

Saturday

Lega Pallavolo Serie A1 Femminile: Igor Gorgonzola Novara vs. Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano – 20:30 local time (18:30 UTC)

The second encounter between Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano in the Lega Pallavolo Serie A1 Femminile is scheduled for Saturday, now with Novara playing at home. The winners of Wednesday's match will advance to the Finals if they prevail again on Saturday.

Sunday

Brazilian Men’s Superliga: Sada Cruzeiro vs. Itambé Minas – 10:00 local time (13:00 UTC)

Sada Cruzeiro and Itambé Minas will decide the title of the Brazilian Men’s Superliga in a single match, repeating last year’s final. Sada, who have seven Superliga titles, and Minas, who have nine, have met in the finals of both the Mineiro Championship and the Club South American Championship, with Sada winning on both occasions. The match will mark the end of the careers of both Rio 2016 Olympic champion William Arjona and London 2012 Olympic medallist Leandro Vissotto, who play for Minas.

SuperLega Credem Banca: Finals, Leg 1 - 18:00 local time (16:00 UTC)

Although the two teams that will compete in the Finals of the SuperLega Credem Banca won’t be known until Tuesday, the date of the first leg of the best-of-five series that will determine the Italian champions is scheduled for Saturday. The duel will take place at the stadium of the best-ranked team in the regular season among the finalists.

Monday

German Men’s League: BR Volleys. vs. Friedrichshafen – 20:00 local time (18:00 UTC)

The Finals of the German Men’s League will start on Monday, with the first of potentially three duels between BR Volleys and Friedrichshafen in Berlin. The teams are set to play each other in the German League Finals for a tenth-straight season and while BR Volleys won eight of the nine series, the sides were even during this year’s regular season, with each winning two of their four duels.
