Gyorgi Grozer hits down the line and past the block of Piacenza's Francesco Recine and Max Holt as Monza bag a decisive win in the Italian league.

Vero Volley Monza have climbed to the top of the standings of the Italian men's SuperLega Credem Banca after a stunning performance for a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) home win on Sunday over undefeated up until that point Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza.

With a match high of 18 points by Germany's Georg Grozer and another 17 by the Czech Republic's Donovan Dzavoronok (including 14/22 for 64% in attack plus three blocks), plus some inspired setting by match MVP Santiago Orduna, Monza were relentless.

The result leaves Sir Safety Conad Perugia the only undefeated side of the season, after their 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-18) thrashing of Itas Trentino on the back of a match high 21 points by Cuba-born Pole Wilfredo Leon - including seven of his side's twelve aces.

Perugia trail Monza by one point in the standings, but have played a match less.

After a slow start to the season, meanwhile, defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova seem to be gradually getting back on track - their latest victim Allianz of Milan at the Mediolanum Forum in straight sets, though much more difficult than it sounds, at 3-0 (28-26, 28-26, 25-23).

The home side was first to reach set point (with two to spare) in the opening set but dropped both these and another two before Lube made a three-point run to take the overall lead. The scores were reversed in the second, with Lube arriving at 24-22 and denying Milan their only shot at tying the game and silencing the 5,000-strong crowd.

Simone Anzani attacked for 67% (8/12) and added three blocks to earn the MVP of the match award, as Cuba's Simon Robertlandy got in nine kills from 15 swings for 60% plus four blocks, but the match high of 19 points came Milan's Jean Patry of France.

In the only five-setter of the weekend, Verona Volley edged Gioella Prisma Taranto 3-2 (24-26, 25-20, 25-23, 19-25, 15-13) with Slovenia's Rok Mozic leading the way on 25 points to counter the match high of 31 by Taranto's Giulio Sabbi.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Top Volley Cisterna brought down Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia 3-1 (25-23, 27-25, 20-25, 25-20) after Canadian duo Stephen Maar and Arthur Swarc respectively bagged 23 points (including three aces) and another 21.

To close the weekend, Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena came from behind in the third set to score a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 27-25) on the road over Consar RCM Ravenna at the Pala Mauro de Andre.

Modena denied Ravenna two set points at 24-22 and a third at 25-24, leaving the home side the only undefeated team in the league.

Cuba-born Brazilian Yoandy Leal scored 17 points for Modena, sharing the match high with Ravenna's Niels Klapwijk of the Netherlands, while Serbia's Dragan Stankovic served four of Modena's seven aces.

Ravenna outblocked Modena 10 to 5, but also gave away just over a set's-worth of errors with 26.
