The third chapter of the 2022-2023 SuperLega Finals is expected to have a huge impact in the best-of-five series between Itas Trentino and Cucine Lube Civitanova as one of the two sides will leave the BLM Group Arena, in Trento, on Sunday, needing only another victory to become the Italian champions.

With the series tied 1-1 after the first two encounters, Trentino will once again be pushed by their fans, who acquired all 4,000 tickets available for Sunday’s encounter against Lube, which starts at 18:00 local time (16:00 UTC).

Trentino, who will return home, where they started the series with a 3-1 victory on Monday, have quickly put the frustration of not being able to get a result on the road on Thursday behind them – the 2022 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship silver medallists managed to come back and tie the match 2-2 after dropping the first two sets, but fell in the tie-breaker.

The team of star outside hitter Alessandro Michieletto and Bulgarian veteran Matey Kaziyski wants to make good use of the homecourt advantage, regain control of the series and get closer to their fifth Scudetto.

“Getting a 2-0 lead in the series would have been amazing, but we’re now even,” middle blocker Marko Podraščanin reflected. “For us, now it’s like we’re back to square one and the series is 0-0. But we only need two more wins, not three.”

Lube, who are looking for a third-straight comeback in the SuperLega playoffs this season and their fourth-straight and eighth overall Italian title, are aware they could have suffered less in their Thursday victory, but also happy to have evened the score in front of their home fans.

The three-time defending champions, who had outside hitter Aleksandar Nikolov and middle blocker Barthélémy Chinenyeze as key players in their victory against Trentino, have the goal of entering match four, on May 14, in a position to take the title in front of their home fans, but will be very cautious with how they approach the third duel.

“We had to fight a lot in match two ad we’re really happy that we managed to even the series,” coach Gianlorenzo Blengini reflected. “In a series like this, you need to approach it one match at a time, ideally even one set at a time, and that’s what we’ll try to do on Sunday.”
