Serbia to start working ahead of VNL 2023

The Serbian men’s national team is set to start its preparations for the Volleyball Nations League 2023 on May 3, when 17 of the 30 players called up by coach Igor Kolaković will report for the beginning of their training camp in Kostunjak.

The list of players that will be available for the first activities of the team in 2023 includes opposite Aleksandar Atanasijević, setter Vuk Todorović and middle blocker Petar Krsmanović.

Others, who are still in action with their teams in the club season, will join the group later – that includes middle blockers Marko Podraščanin and Srećko Lisinac and outside hitters Uroš Kovačević and Marko Ivović.

The 30-player list released by Kolaković, who’s in the second year of his second stint with the Serbian national team, features ten of the 14 players that were selected for last year’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

The four absences are longtime team captain and outside hitter Nemanja Petrić, who recently announced his international retirement, setter Nikola Jovović, opposite Dušan Petković and libero Nikola Peković.

The Serbians will have a full month to prepare for their debut in the VNL 2023, which will take place on June 7, in Nagoya, Japan, against Slovenia – the Europeans will also face China, Japan and Poland in the opening week of the tournament.

In 2023, the team will also compete in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Japan, in September, and the European Championship, in Italy, from August to September.
